One-day Chess tourney in city

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Chess Association (MCA) and the Khasi Student Union (KSU) organised the 1st U Tirot Sing Syiem Memorial One Day Rapid Chess Tournament 2019 on Wednesday at Tirot Sing Memorial Indoor Stadium in Lachumiere, Shillong to mark the death anniversary of the U Tirot Sing Syiem. Besides KSU president Lambok S Marngae who launched the website of the MCA (www.meghalayachess.com), members of the union and members of the MCA were present. Winners of the U-19 Boys category included: Brian CJL Marshillong from Anderson HS Nongstoin; Jayden Mewan Lakiang from St Edmund Shillong. Youngest/special player was awarded to Keefe Phira and the best player district was given to Wise Samboklang Marwein KJP School Nongstoin. In the U-15 Boys Chue Sa Dowrik from Tura, Mewanpynhunlang Diengdoh from St Anthonys HS Shillong emerged as winners. Meanwhile, in the U-18 Girls category Steffi B Kharwarphlang from East Khasi Hills and Lidya Katrai from Mawlai Shillong were declared as winners. In the Open category the winners were held to be Silkam Sangma and Barbith M Sangma from Tura, Bobby Lyngdoh from NEHU Shillong. Best players from the districts were Paiadaohi Lhuid (Jaintia Hills) and Iarilyne Diengdoh (East khasi Hills).
