SHILLONG: The Department of Mass Media, St. Anthony’s College is organising the North-East India Archive Summit on the college premises on Friday and Saturday.
The summit is a forerunner to the launch of the first ever North East India, Audio-Visual Archive, in October. The setting up of the archive is supported by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan and the department will also be collaborating with the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Japan, who will share their expertise and will be aiding in the collection of North-East Indian documentary films.
This first edition of the summit aims to gather on a common platform, academicians, journalists, film-makers, photographers, musicians, sound managers/recordists and archivists from Meghalaya, to discuss and deliberate on the body of work that they have accomplished so far; the importance and relevance of archiving these; and the problems and possibilities of being able to do so.
