SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has taken exception to move to hike salaries of members of KHADC by 65 per cent at a time when the council is “faced with financial crisis.”
“We see the increase in salary of MDCs by 65 percent as a selfish move at a time when the council itself has admitted that it was facing financial crisis. We had recently approached the KHADC and submitted a memorandum pointing out that the salary paid to its employees at the lowest rung of the ladder was very much below the amount notified by the labour department on daily wages,” KHNAM youth wing, president Thomas Passah told The Shillong Times on Wednesday.
The youth wing of KHNAM had alleged in the memorandum that favoritism and nepotism ruled the roost when it came to appointment to various posts at the KHADC.
Passah said that he did not see any requirement for increase in salary of MDCs at the moment.
“It is not the important thing to do at the moment. I was expecting that the available resources of the council would be utilised properly to uplift the administration of the council at large,” he said.
