New Delhi: Considering the huge potential of North East, the Centre is set to help the food processing industries in the region in a big way.
“Under various schemes of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samapada Yojana (PMKSY), financial assistance is provided as capital subsidy in the form of grants-in aid,” the Minister for Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal told Agatha Sangma in Lok Sabha.
“This aid is given to individuals, farmers, cooperative societies, self-help groups, farmer-producer organisations, private companies, central/state PSUs for setting up of food processing industries, units, projects in Northeastern states,” she said.
Incidentally, Salon International de l’alimentation 2019 (SIAL) will organise its trade fair in Shillong.
The event termed as ‘North East Food Show by Meghalaya and Sial’ and supported by Salon International de l’alimentation India and SIAL International is slated to be organised in December in the city.
In a reply to Agatha in Lok Sabha, the minister, however, said that the Ministry itself does not set up any food processing industry anywhere in the country but helps the states.
