SHILLONG: NPP State president WR Kharlukhi has stated the party does not need Congress MLAs and there is no reason for the party to push them to join the ruling party.
Kharlukhi’s assertion on Wednesday comes after Congress MLA Zenith Sangma alleged that the BJP, NPP and UDP are out poaching Congress MLAs.
“There is no such thing and we don’t need to poach them and like Karnataka, they will come on their own,” he said while maintaining that the party is comfortable with MDA and the alliance will last till 2023 without any doubt.
“We are not poaching but may be Zenith Sangma is pushing them (MLAs),” he said while denying speculations that Congress MLAs have approached.
He also said that the Congress MLAs are making such wild statements because they are desperate being out of power for the first time.
Almost every party in the state has claimed that some Congress MLAs have approached them to join their parties, while the BJP has even gone to the extent of claiming that at least three MLAs are looking to join the saffron party.
It may be mentioned that NPP leader and cabinet minister Sniawbhalang Dhar had recently claimed that eight to nine Congress MLAs have approached the NPP expressing their willingness to join the party.
Informing that no Congress MLAs have approached the NPP, Kharlukhi said, “I am very clear that NPP is not poaching. He should ask Sniawbhalang and not blame the party”.
“I am very clear they never approached,” he added.
