GUWAHATI: In view of the heavy rainfall, the rising flood water is again inundating Assam areas in Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Nalbari, Bongaigaon and Chirang districts even as death toll mounted to 77 including two deaths in landslides.
As on Wednesday, 2,933 number of villages in 73 revenue circles of 20 districts viz. Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat and Cachar, are flooded affecting a population of 34, 82, 170.
Presently, 826 numbers of relief camps are operational in the districts of Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat and Jorhat districts with 2,00,525 inmates and 107 Relief Distribution Centres in the districts of Lakhimpur, Udalguri, Darrang, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, South Salmara, Kamrup, Morigaon and Golaghat. Six persons have lost their lives due to flood in the districts of Nalbari (1), Barpeta (1), Dhubri (1), Morigaon (3) and Golaghat (1) in last 24 hours. In the current wave of flood, the total loss of human lives has risen to 77 including two deaths in landslide.
Water level of rivers at Danger Level: Brahmaputra at Neamatighat (Jorhat) and Dhubri, Jia Bharali at N.T. Road Crossing (Sonitpur), Puthimari at N.H. Road Crossing (Kamrup); Manas at N.H.Rd. Xing (Barpeta), Beki at Rd. Bridge (Barpeta); Gaurang at Kokrajhar (Kokrajhar) and Sonkosh at Golakganj (Dhubri).
Sainik school association distributes relief items
The Old Boys Association Sainik School Goalpara (OB ASSG), in association with the cadets, staff and authority of Sainik School Goalpara, distributed relief materials among flood-hit families in Goalpara district.
OBA SSG distributed the relief materials on Tuesday at four relief camps in Dolgoma area in Matia block and at Jaytun Nessa School in Goalpara town.
The association members also met the chief minister of Assam who visited the relief camps in the Goalpara on Tuesday.
More than 400 families living in four relief camps in Dolgoma Girls’ High School, Dolgoma H.S. School, Dolgoma L.P. School and Dolgoma M.E. School were provided packets of relief materials apart from Janatun Nesa School at Goalpara town.
The packets contained rice, dal, sugar, salt, potato, soyabean, biscuits, noodles, chira, water bottles and used clothes. The camp was inaugurated by Lt. Col. Vishal Sharma, officiating principal and Lt. Col. Anil Jasrotia, vice principal of Sainik School Goalpara at Dalgoma. In a press statement the General Secretary of OBA SSG has thanked all those who extended support in the form of cash and kinds related to flood relief camp from OBA SSG fraternity and others.
