Homage paid to Kargil War martyrs

SHILLONG: The Indian armed forces stationed in Shillong on Friday paid homage to the 527 martyrs of the Kargil War including state’s own Lt Captain Clifford Nongrum as part of the Kargil Vijay Divas.
A wreath-laying ceremony led by AOC-in-C EAC Air Marshal RD Mathur and GOC 101 Area, Lt Gen Tumul Verma was organised to commemorate 20 years of Kargil war at Rhino War Memorial.
Other members of the armed forces joined in the  salute to honour the martyrs. Talking to newsmen, Mathur in his message said that it is very important to be a patriot from the heart and mere display of it is not enough.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the victory of the Indian armed forces in Operation Vijay against the infiltrating Pakistani troops, he added.
