SHILLONG: IIM Shillong will be hosting a floral homage and candle lighting ceremony on Saturday from 6.15 pm onwards at its campus to mark the fourth death anniversary of former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam.
The ceremony is open to the public.
Kalam breathed his last breath while delivering a lecture on ‘Creating a Livable Planet Earth’ at IIM Shillong on July 27, 2015.
Inspired by the teachings and values of Kalam, students of IIM Shillong started Nurturing Minds in 2015. The objective of the programme is to encourage learning and help nurture creativity, amongst underprivileged school children of Shillong.
IIM Shillong has also set up Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis, designed to serve as a knowledge partner for policy formation for the North East relating to six critical sectors like tourism, logistics, horticulture, handloom, handicraft and BPO. It collaborates with institutions like North Eastern Council, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, and the state governments to properly plan and execute projects, promote innovations and functions as a repository of the best practices in the region.
