SHILLONG: As the state is not getting alternate site for dumping of garbage, the government hopes that the upcoming compost plant at Marten dumping ground at Mawiong, will be able to mange waste.
Urban and Municipal Affairs Minister Hamlet Dohling said on Friday that currently, 120 to 130 tonnes of waste is dumped daily and the upcoming compost plant will be able to handle 170 tonnes of waste.
The department is also planning to set up Kerala model waste management system at Umpling and Lawjynriew to be initiated by the self help groups.
Another project of the government is to convert waste into energy and for this, the government has already sought the assistance of a Korean group.
