Assam Governor mourns Donkupar Roy’s death

GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi mourned the demise of the Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and former chief minister of Meghalaya, Donkupar Roy who died on Sunday following a brief illness.

In a statement, Governor Prof. Mukhi said, “Pained to learn the untimely demise of Donkupar Roy, a senior politician who helped transforming several lives in all walks of life.

“Late Roy served Meghalaya with dedication and diligence which have manifested in the development of the state including its people living in all nook and corner of the state. 

“He was very passionate for the welfare of all sections of the people and worked whole heartedly towards that end. He also contributed untiringly to uphold parliamentary democracy and his death is a great loss to the region.

            “Though no words will be sufficient to console the bereavement, I pray to the Almighty to be with the family members at this time of tragedy. My prayers are also for the eternal peace of the departed soul”, the Governor added.
