SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) general secretary, Donald Thabah, has raised concern over the quantum of reservation in direct recruitment for Scheduled Tribes which is currently only 7.5 per cent.
He was speaking at the Mait Shaphrang Award 2019 organised by KSU Malki circle on Saturday at Indoor Community Hall, Khliehshnong, Malki.
Referring to the Central Educational Institutions (reservation in admission) Amendment Act 2012, he said that the quantum of reservation is unfounded as Meghalaya has over 90 per cent of STs. The Act stipulates 15 per cent reservation for Scheduled Castes and 27 per cent for Other Backward Classes.
Thabah has urged the state government and the MPs to look into the matter seriously.
The KSU, Malki circle felicitated 31 meritorious students from Malki who secured distinction in Khasi in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination.
