Mawkyrwat: The Garo Students Union (GSU) Balat Regional Unit has claimed that the unavailability of quarters have contributed to the irregularities of government officials in attending offices at Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills District and, therefore, demanded that the government should immediately provide quarter for its officers working.
President of the GSU Balat Regional Unit John K Sangma said after some NGOs demanded the removal of the District Transport Officer (DTO) because of his irregularities in attending office, the union visited different government departments in Mawkyrwat and found out that most of the district officers are working without official quarters.
To know the reasons behind the irregularities of the DTO in attending office, the body also met an officer in Mawkyrwat and found out that he is staying temporary with other officers and this is a big problem for him.
“Therefore, we demand from the state government to immediately provide quarters to every district officers and we also demand from the local MLA Pius Marwein to look into the matter so that the officers in the district can get quarters as soon as possible,” Sangma said.
