Agartala: Tripura University administration on Monday suspended an Upper Division Clerk (UDC) on the allegations of outraging the modesty of the patron of the University’s girls’ hostel and threatening her with rape and murder on the night of Aug 7.
The victim had lodged an FIR against the accused Manas Pal, stating he stormed into the girls’ hostel in a drunken state, along with seven to eight others in the late hours of last Wednesday and outraged her modesty.
Following the incident, the university authorities provided security to the woman official and heightened the security of the hostel and the campus.
The victim alleged that the perpetrators threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone, as they belonged to the ruling dispensation and the university administration was in their control.
They also told her that the local BJP MLA belonged to their group and if she dared to report the incident, she would be murdered.
Under their threat and pressure, the patron did not utter a word for two days, but on Aug 9, she decided to lodge an FIR against the accused persons.
According to police, within minutes of the recording of the FIR, they tried to launch the investigation, but could not take it further immediately as the university was closed due to holiday. Meanwhile, the University here on Monday said that it has taken all the steps on the basis of legal advice and the main accused Pal has been suspended in contemplation of departmental proceeding under Rules 10 of CCS (CCA) rules 1965 read with section 26 of Tripura University Act, 2006.
Moreover, an inquiry committee has also been set up to inquire the matter and it has also been moved to Internal Complaint Committee. Meanwhile, the University also took action against Motikapur Manikrao Moon, a guest teacher in the department of Sociology, following a complaint about his behaviour in the classroom, a video of which had gone viral in social media.
A four-member inquiry committee has been appointed to inquire into the matter and has asked Moon to submit its report within 15 days from the date of the notification. Moon has also been debarred from conducting the classes till further order. (UNI)
