Addressing the gathering during the inauguration Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma while expressing his gratitude to all who donated land for the two projects said he would also acknowledge the contribution of all those who were a part it. “Projects like these have different people, departments and political parties playing their part and it only when all the stakeholders come together such projects can be achieved,” he said. He said that with the opening and implementation of the Bypass traffic congestion in Shillong city should be eased to a considerable extent. He also added that while government and its different departments do their part the society also has a big role in maintaining the assets and infrastructures that have been created. “Whether it is maintaining things, maintaining law and order or curbing anti social activities if society also gives a helping hand it will make a big difference,” he said.

“Our people very conveniently throw garbage on the roadside and I hope that does not happen to the Shillong Mawlai Bypass,” said the Chief Minister. He appealed the society to ensure that the Bypass does not become a dumping ground, a parking lot or anti social hub. “In all the efforts of the government whether it is creating infrastructures or efforts to keep Shillong clean, nothing will be successful if the society does not participate,” he said. He said that since there will be a lot of tourist flow with the opening of the Bypass, he urged the people to help the tourists and make them feel welcomed. He added that the Mawkynroh Police Outpost would also be of great help to the people of the area and to ensure that traffic is smooth on the Shillong Mawlai Bypass.

The Chief Minister also flagged off the fourteen First Responder Traffic Police Bikes during the occasion.

Among others, who were present during the inauguration were, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, Minister, Transport etc Sniawbhalang Dhar, Minister, Education etc Lahkmen Rymbui, MLA, Mawlai, P T Sawkmie and officers from the PWD (R & B).
