NONGSTOIN: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Langpih area unit has opposed the decision of the Nepali community to set up a market at Langpih near Mawdiangsnam which is private land owned by Hesdingstar Sanglein of Langpih village.
Serbilin Lyngdoh, President, FKJGP Langpih Area Unit, told media persons here that after the Federation voiced its opposition to the move to set up a market near the Assam Police outpost, the landowner, Hesdingstar Sanglein, filed an FIR at Meghalaya Police outpost.
The Meghalaya Police has since conducted an Enquiry.
The police have stopped the Nepali community from constructing the market.
The Nepali community has also challenged the landowner that the land belongs to them and they will furnish document to substantiate the claim within three days.
Serbilin Lyngdoh has urged the state government to intervene and ensure peace in the area.
He also said that the locals earn their livelihood from the existing market in Langpih and called upon the Hima, village head and youth and women organisations to oppose the setting up of a new market.
