TURA: The Mindikgre Unit of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) on Tuesday filed an FIR at Baghmara Police Station against officers and staff of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) based at Baghmara in South Garo Hills alleging non-attendance in their respective duties. The FIR comes even as Baghmara town and its adjoining areas have been coping with poor mobile network for over a month now. The FIR was filed after the student union found the officers and staff absent from duty, during a surprise visit to the BSNL office on Monday afternoon.
In the FIR, the union accused the officer concerned of remaining absent from duty for about a month or more and added that such behaviour was not expected from someone who is paid so handsomely.
“Instead of providing uninterrupted services, the officers and staff had remained aloof from their duties thereby cheating the customers who, due to lack of network are facing immense hardships in official works in all departments and transactions at banks, not to mention their inability to use their mobile phones,” Greneth M Sangma, the president of the GSU local unit, alleged.
Calling for immediate action against the erring officers and staff, the union asked they be charge-sheeted in court to ensure that the customers and the government are not cheated again in the future.
