JAC unhappy with NEHU stand
Shillong: The Joint Action Committee (JAC), NEHU in a press statement expressed concern in the continuing violation of statutory provisions by the Vice-Chancellor of the university. The JAC stated that half truths were in circulation in the name of self-laudatory note by the VC, which demeans the high office of the Vice-Chancellor and brings bad tidings for the university as a whole. An erring, absent and incompetent VC has brought down the hard work of university stakeholder to null, and it needs urgent course correction, it added. It appeals to central government and all other responsible agencies to look into serious statutory violation and its adverse consequence in terms of academic, administrative and financial mismanagement of the university.
MLCU orientation programme
Shillong: Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) organised an orientation programme for the first semester undergraduate and post graduate students on Thursday at Windermere Resorts, Umpling. It was held with the objective of familiarising the incoming students with the academic system and policies of MLCU. It was attended by the students with their parents and guardians.
Villages under new police outpost
Shillong: The Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Home (Police) Department informed that the villages which fall under Mawkynroh-Umshing police outpost are Mawlai Mawkynroh, Mawlai Umshing Mawkynroh, Mawlai Mawtawar, Umsaw Mawjynrong, Mawtawar, Nongkohlew, Mawsiatkhnam, Umrynjah, Umphrew and Madan Mawkhar. The state government in a notification issued recently has created the Mawkynroh – Umshing police outpost at NEHU campus in East Khasi Hills district for public convenience and better administration. Mawkynroh-Umshing Police Outpost is bounded in the North by Umiam river, in the West by Mawiong village, in the East by Mawdiangdiang outpost and in the South by Mawlai Mawroh.
BSF seeks action against smugglers
SHILLONG: Border Security Force (BSF) seized three boats loaded with huge quantity of dry pea which was intended for smuggling to India, on Tuesday. They have requested the Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB) to take action against the smugglers. Bangladeshi smugglers who were trying to enter India through river Hari (Myntdu) in West Jaintia Hills district on Tuesday, had along with them five engine fitted country-made boats loaded with dry pea intended for smuggling. As the boat entered Indian territory, the BSF troops challenged them. The Bangladeshi smugglers did not stop but rather assaulted them. In self-defence the BSF troops fired with a pump action gun (PAG) which is a non- lethal weapon. The miscreants received minor injuries and returned back to Bangladesh. The BSF also lodged a protest note and requested the BGB to take action against them.
