SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will write to the Centre to ensure that the scheduled areas in the state are not affected following the amendment of the Indian Forest Act, 1927.
Forest Committee headed by Executive Member (EM) in charge of Forest Victor Ranee has convened a meeting of the KHADC, Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on September 6 to discuss the suggestions to be included in the letter to the Centre. “The Indian Forest Act, 1972 does not affect the areas falling under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. We will call upon the JHADC to discuss together about the matter,” Ranee said.
He informed that the United Khasi Jaintia Autonomous District Management and Control of Forest 1958 is in force in Sixth Scheduled areas.
