SHILLONG: MDC of Barato Mukroh, Aiborlang Shabong, has demanded a police outpost at Barato which is adjacent to Block I, a disputed area along the Meghalaya-Assam border.
Shabong accompanied by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Barato unit and members of the union’s central body, Latympang Welfare Organisation member, HT Wells, met the Home Minister James Sangma and apprised him of the matter.
Wells said that a police outpost is needed at Barato considering it is adjacent to Block I which is a disputed area along the Meghalaya-Assam border.
He said that cadres of the Karbi National Volunteers (KNV) harass the farmers. Wells also recalled the kidnapping and killing of a 15-year-old boy by the KNV when Late TH Rangad was a minister.
“At that time, nothing concrete came out from the government. But we are glad that the Home Minister gave a positive reply to us,” he said.
The union secretary of Barato unit, Nihun Sten said that the union also supports the demand for a police outpost.
