SHILLONG: The under-construction ISBT at Mawiong is likely to miss yet another deadline — in December — although major works are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Sources in the PWD, which is implementing the project on behalf of the Transport department, hinted that the project will not be completed even in December this year.
The state government is running against time to complete the long delayed ISBT since the North Eastern Council (NEC) has said it would stop funding ongoing projects across the North East from March next year.
However, an official on Thursday said that the major work of the ISBT will be completed within December, but some issues, like the approach road, for instance, and land acquisition will remain.
He said the Transport department is dealing with the land acquisition issue.
The project is being executed by the PWD at an estimated cost of Rs 48 crore. It has been delayed for long and multiple deadlines have been missed since it was sanctioned in 2013.
The project is aimed at decongesting the overcrowded parking lots in Shillong.
The new terminus will accommodate 150-200 buses. Once completed, it will be the second ISBT in Meghalaya with the one at Tura having been inaugurated recently.
