JH police determined to curb drug menace

JOWAI: Police in both East and West Jaintia Hills are trying hard to curb the drug menace.
In August, East Jaintia Hills Police seized more than 150 grams of drugs including heroine and bottles of cough syrup (codeine).
Recently, the East Jaintia Hills police along with Anti Narcotic Task Force seized 10.64 grams of heroin and arrested three persons including a resident of Pamrakmai village.
The major seizure made by East Jaintia Hills narcotic cell and the district police was on August 22. Around 123.73 grams of heroin and 400 ml of codeine were seized from one person identified as Saharul Islam Laskar. His friend Mamon Ahmed Laskar was also arrested.
In another case, on August 2, one Napur Das was arrested for drug peddling.
In West Jaintia Hills, drugs were seized from suppliers who were travelling in a Manipur bound vehicle from Assam.
Not only drugs, a large quantity of ganja worth several lakhs of rupees was also seized from a truck by West Jaintia Hills police.
A few months ago, Jowai police also seized gold biscuits hidden in slippers.
