MDA has four names for Speaker post

SHILLONG: Four names have come up for the post of Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly even as the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) is harping on a consensus candidate.
Sources said the names of Lambor Malngiang, Lahkmen Rymbui, Timothy D. Shira and former Deputy Speaker Sanbor Shullai figure in the list of probable candidates for the post of Speaker.
Malngiang is a second time independent MLA while Rymbui is a cabinet minister from the United Democratic Party.
Shira is an NPP MLA, who is currently the Deputy Speaker and Shullai is from the BJP.
In 2013, Shullai, who was then a legislator from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was elected unopposed as the deputy speaker of the. Later, he resigned when there was a crisis in the Congress-led government.
The MDA will meet on September 4 to finalise the consensus candidate for the post of Speaker.
