SHILLONG: Opposition chief whip and Congress MLA PT Sawkmie has said that local people should be given top preference in terms of employment when the upcoming Taj Vivanta Hotel in the city becomes functional next year.
He said that a large number of youths from the state have finished their hotel management courses but very few have found employment while many of them are working outside the state.
“If the Hotel cannot provide jobs to the locals, then what is the use of having a hotel?” Sawkmie added.
It may be mentioned that Indian Hotels Co. Ltd is set to operate the 5-star hotel at the Crowborough hotel site in the city. The agreement was signed on August 30 in Shillong between the lessee of Crowborough hotel and the Indian Hotels Co. Ltd.
