The union discussed with the SP the consequences after 19 lakh citizen of Assam are not included in the final list of NRC. KSU believe that they are illegal immigrants and in no time they will try to enter the state as the mechanism of checking infiltrators at the proposed entry and exit point is under process.
The manpower of the infiltration check gate is weak, the union added.
The union demanded and urged the SP to vigilantly increase personnel at the infiltration check gate at Athiabari and along the inter-state boundary of Shallang Nongshram, Langpih and Kyrshai.
During the discussion, Laloo assured that strict vigilance and action will be taken in every inter-state border between West Khasi Hills and Assam. He also claimed that he will not allow any group of outsiders to settle or cross the border of West Khasi Hills.
The SP said that the infiltration check point in Athiabari has no man power but he will inform all in-charge in every outpost and police station to be alert from influx.
Nongsiang appreciated the step taken by the SP and also informed that the union will depute members to keep an eye on the entry of illegal immigrants into the district.
The KSU president also informed all the contractors who hire non-tribal labourers should possess work permit and labour license failing which they will be sent back. Labourers from Assam should confirm their NRC eligibility. All non-tribal businessmen should have NRC confirmation along with trading license and work permit to conduct business transaction within the district.
