Teenager stripped, paraded naked
Bhopal: Two crimes involving teenaged tribal women have shaken Alirajpur district in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua region. While no case has been registered in the incident of a 19-year-old girl who was stripped naked and paraded for eloping with a boy of another tribe, another 19-year-old girl has been arrested for allegedly abducting a 17-year-old girl with whom she was in a same-sex relationship. A purported video of Saturday’s incident involving stripping and parading of the woman by her community members went viral on social media on Tuesday. The woman wearing a petticoat and blouse is seen being beaten with sticks by persons chasing her while she was screaming and begging for mercy in the local dialect. Several passersby overlooked the entire incident and moved on. (IANS)

To treat hydrocele, doctors operate upon man’s leg in Bihar
Patna: In another case of medical negligence, doctors at a government-run hospital in Bihar wrongly operated upon the leg of a patient, who was there for a treatment of hydrocele — a build-up of fluid inside the scrotum. Rambhajan Yadav, who is in his early 50s, was admitted at Gaya’s Anugrah Narayan Medical College and Hospital two days ago for a hydrocele surgery. But to the shock of his family, the doctors operated upon his leg, which they said was fine. ‘My father was advised surgery for hydrocele, but a team of doctors wrongly operated upon his leg, which they said had some symptoms of filaria. Instead of accepting their mistake, they tried to link hydrocele to filaria. They said operating upon the leg was necessary to treat hydrocele. What can we do except complain to the authorities?’ said Bhubaneswar Yadav, Rambhajan’s son. (IANS)

No life-long bungalows to ex-CMs: Rajasthan HC
Jaipur: Former chief ministers of Rajasthan cannot avail life-long facilities like government bungalow, telephone and car, ruled the Rajasthan High Court here on Wednesday as it declared the Rajasthan Ministers’ Salaries (Amendment) Act 2017 “illegal”. Announcing the verdict, a division bench of state Chief Justice S. Ravindra Bhatt and Justice Prakash Gupta observed that Rajasthan is an economically backward state and such life-long facilities for ex-CMs was a misuse of public funds. The high court ruling came on a plea filed by senior journalist Milapchand Dandiya challenging the law that gave life-long facilities such as a government bungalow, car, driver, telephone services and a staff of 10 to former chief ministers of the state. Dandiya’s plea questioned the Rajasthan law referring to a Supreme Court order that quashed a similar Uttar Pradesh legislation, which granted permanent accommodation to the state’s former chief ministers. Pilot project to reduce weight of school bags in Rajasthan
Jaipur: Rajasthan Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasara on Wednesday launched from here a state-wide pilot project aimed at reducing the weight of children’s school bags. Addressing a gathering at the Government Higher Secondary School in Vatika area, Dotasara said the textbooks’ weight has been reduced by two third. Students will now have to carry one book instead of several ones of the same subject, he added. He said Rajasthan is the first state in the country, where an initiative to reduce the school children’s burden has been taken. During the event, the minister also distributed new books to children of classes one to five. Dotasara said the weight of old books of students of class 1 was 900 grams, which has now been reduced to 400 grams. Similarly, the weights of books for classes one to five have been reduced from 5 kg 900 grams to 2 kg 200 grams. (PTI)

Cop pens song urging motorists against traffic violations
Chandigarh: A baton wielding police personnel in Chandigarh has wielded a pen to write lyrics advising motorists that they can’t escape for a song after committing traffic violations. Assistant Sub Inspector Bhupinder Singh, posted in the traffic wing of Chandigarh Police, is urging motorists through song not to violate traffic rules, as the amended Motor Vehicles Act provides for hefty fines. In a Punjabi song shared by the Chandigarh Police on its Twitter handle, Singh said many people are killed in road accidents and fines for traffic violations were low, which failed to deter violators. “Now the implementation of new law has been announced. And do not complain that challans have become hefty. It will hit your kitchen budget,” say the lyrics of Singh’s song. The officer and singing enthusiast urged the youth not to drive before they attain the age of 18, otherwise their parents could land in trouble. (IANS)
