SHILLONG: The BJP will raise the issue of discrimination towards the party by NPP during the meeting of its national leaders in Guwahati on September 9.
The BJP has criticised the statement of NPP leader WR Kharlukhi who had defended the government.
The BJP leaders from Garo Hills have also demanded the removal of Kharlukhi from the post of the party president failing which they have decided to raise their grievances with the BJP central leaders.
Referring to certain remarks by Kharlukhi, BJP leader from Garo Hills KC Boro said the statement of the NPP leader that ‘the dogs may bark but the caravan will go on’ is very unfortunate and undesirable.
“We the BJP are not dogs. We did not bark but it is Kharlukhi himself who is doing so”, Boro said.
Reiterating discrimination, corruption and lack development, the BJP leader said it was as desired by NPP MLA Thomas Sangma that the BJP should state specific cases of discrimination by the NPP- led MDA government
“We have narrated specific cases. If we are correct, the government should accept it but if we are wrong, they should reject it. But unfortunately, instead of either accepting or rejecting the grievances, Kharlukhi diverted the subject forgetting the concerns raised by us”, said Boro who is the co -chairman and spokesperson of public grievances- cum- vigilance committee, BJP, Garo Hills.
According to BJP, the adverse statement of Kharlukhi is unparliamentarily, too personal as well as an insult to BJP.
Boro said Kharlukhi should either apologise admitting his mistake on or before September 8 or he should resign from the current post failing which the party will raise the issue with the NDA. “Only under the banner of BJP, the NPP had secured several seats from Garo Hills in the last Assembly polls and everyone knows that only because of the special help from the BJP that NPP could form the government and Conrad Sangma became the Chief Minister”, Boro said.
According to Boro, the fact remains that Agatha Sangma is supporting the BJP at the Centre.
Contradicting the views of Kharlukhi, Boro said the BJP’s fight is not for self interest but it is for the public, for the development and against corruption that is going on randomly in the government.
“What we want to say is stop discrimination, stop corruption, give justice to all irrespective of party affiliations and bring maximum development to the people in the state”, he said.
The BJP leader predicted that the BJP will prove its popularity in the 2023 Assembly elections.
Boro also asked the chief minister to clarify on the grievances raised by the party.
“We want to make it very clear that the BJP leaders of Garo Hills are not interested in any political appointments. We only want that our people are not neglected and not discriminated in respect of development”, Boro said.
The BJP leader also said that the party is not trying to destabilise the MDA alliance as stated by Kharlukhi.
“NPP should neither forget BJP’s existence in the government nor should it be neglected. We would request them to maintain the spirit of alliance in its true sense in the interest of the government and the people”, he said.
The public grievances- cum- vigilance committee, BJP, Garo Hills has also decided to intensify its monitoring works by visiting certain government offices and the district council.
