KSU urges DC to curb illegal immigrants

SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union (KSU), South West Khasi Hills District led by its general secretary, Jiedskhem Nongsiej met SWKH Deputy Commissioner to discuss on the issue of District Task Force to curb illegal immigrants. The union also talked about work permits for labourers from outside the state.
In a statement issued here, the president of KSU South West Khasi Hills, Forwardman Nongrem said the union is disappointed with the slow pace to implement the District Task Force.
The DC informed that she has sent the details of the district task force to different villages especially in the border areas but the traditional leaders request it to be translated to Khasi.
Regarding work permit, the union voiced concern on the slow pace of work regarding the registration of labourers by contractors, limestone or coal owners.
The labour inspectors have assured to visit border areas to inspect the situation.
