NONGSTOIN: The much-awaited Nongstoin Urban Water Supply Scheme (NUWSS) which is a dream of thousands of residents of Nongstoin is now heading to become a reality with construction work in progress. About 80 to 90 per cent of the work is completed.
The construction of the water supply scheme is taken up by the PHE department, WKHD at a cost of Rs 133.94 crore. The project is expected to be completed before December.
On Wednesday, the PHE department along with engineers of Tantia company and Kirloskar Brother Ltd who undertook the implementation of the water scheme tested the water pump from the intake point to the reservoir at Nongjyllieh and it was successful.
For testing of the water pump, the Kirloskar group sent Associate Manager and Engineer Service Division from Calcutta, Subasis Chakraborty to monitor and supervise the process.
According to Subasis, the water pump is installed perfectly and is expected to run smoothly. He further said that Kirloskar is a reputed company and if the water pump is serviced regularly and proper care is given it can last up to 30 to 40 years. The Tantia Construction Ltd company also sent an engineer for testing the pump.
The process is going on but there are few technical issues and erratic electric supply which is hampering the project work, Subasis said.
If things are going as planned it is expected to be completed in a day or two, he added.
