JOWAI: West Jaintia Hills, Superintendent of Police, Lakador Syiem was conferred the Union Home Minister Medal for Excellence in Police Training.
The medal was conferred to him by the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). The bureau was set up in 1970 with an objective for modernisation of police forces in the country.
Syiem was the former Principal of Police Training School (PTS), Shillong.
When he was the Deputy Superintendent of Police he served as a teacher in PTS as well as North East Police Academy. For the last ten years he has been a guest lecturer in both the training institutes.
In addition to this, Syiem has been giving lectures and talks on various topics related with social issues such as drug abuse, crimes against women and children, ill effect of militancy in various schools, colleges among others.
Commenting on his award, Syiem said that the medal is a tribute to all those lecturers or instructors (Guruji in police) and teachers in all the Police Training centre of the Meghalaya Police.
“I dedicate this to those Gurujis who has molded a common man and woman to discipline police personnel” Syiem said.
He also thanked his senior police officers in the training branch of Meghalaya Police and also to the Director General of Police for having faith in him as a trainer and to serve the department in particular and the public in general.
