State celebrates 58th Teachers’ Day

TURA/ NONGPOH/ NONGSTOIN/ JOWAI: Along with the rest of the country, the 58th Teachers’ Day was celebrated across all districts including Garo Hills in functions organised at different venues of the region.
In Tura, North Tura MLA and Adviser to the Chief Minister, Thomas A Sangma was the chief guest along with ADC Z J Sangma, education officials, teachers, heads of schools and school students.
Speaking on the occasion, Thomas A Sangma lauded the teachers for their selfless service adding that it is because of them that he was able to play his role to serve the people.
The district awardees from Tura included Assistant Teacher of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Joan Pearline D Shira, Tura Government Girls Higher Secondary School Teacher Murthybina N Sangma and head Teacher-cum-secretary of Lower Chandmary Government LP School, Ferisha Palley.
Assistant Teacher and Scout Master, Rongram Higher Secondary School, Dicky N Sangma received the Best Scout Master award and Best Guide Captain was awarded to Sellina R Marak of Asanang UP School.

North Garo Hills
In North Garo Hills, the occasion was celebrated at SGSY Hall in Resubelpara where the district Deputy Commissioner, S C Sadhu highlighted the important role played by teachers in the society.
The State Teacher Award from the district was conferred to Nandadevi G Momin, Head teacher, Nibari Govt. School and the District Teachers Awards were given to Tenzing R Sangma, Headmaster, Depa Secondary School, Dewilson Momin, Headmaster, Rajasimla Government School, Rikrang R Sangma, Head teacher, Badaka Government School, Lowston K Marak, Scout Master, Salnaram Government U.P School and Monalchi K Sangma, Guide Captain, Rev Ramke Secondary School.
South West Garo Hills
In South West Garo Hills, the official function to celebrate the occasion was organised by the District Education Department at Ampati Multi Facility Centre. It was attended by SWGH Deputy Commissioner Ramkumar S, who was the chief guest and Bertha Merry A. Sangma of Boldamgre UP School, a district teacher who is a recipient of the State Award.
The District Awards were given to Uttam Kumar Kalita, Headmaster of Rangsakona Def. Secondary School, Dewbarlinda B. Sangma, Headmistress of Ampati Def. UP School and Brinjonath B Marak, Headmaster of Masalgre Govt. LP School, while Paltan Hajong, assistant teacher of Katuli Def. Secondary School and Predilline A. Sangma, Asstt Teacher of Boldamgre Def. Secondary School were presented with the Best Scout Master and Best Guide Captain awards, respectively.
Nongpoh
The 58th anniversary of Teachers’s Day was also celebrated in Ri Bhoi District at Parish Hall Nongpoh on Thursday.
The celebration here was organized by the office of the District School Education Officer and Sub-Divisional School Education Officer, Ri Bhoi District Nongpoh. Mayralborn Syiem, MLA was the chief guest along with guest of honour R.M Kurbah, Deputy Commissioner of the district, V.S Nongbet, DSEO, S.Kharsahnoh, SDSEO, headmen, parents, teachers and students from various schools.
Golak Chandra Medhi, assistant lecturer of Jirang Govt. HS School, New Jirang, Siantimai Shylla, assistant teacher of Nehru Memorial HS School, Umsning, Vincent Syiem, head teacher, Mawdiangum RC LP School, Nongpoh, were the teachers who were given the district awards besides the conferment of scouts and guide awards to Bonifast Suting, Don Bosco HS School, Byrnihat and Bibiana Kharsati of Little Flower HS School Mawbri.
Various songs and dance were also performed by school children.
Nongstoin
Batskhem Ryntathiang, MDC Mairang Constituency was the chief guest during the Teachers’ Day Celebration, organised by the Office of the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer, Mairang in collaboration with the Child Development Project Officer, ICDS Mairang at Mairang Presbyterian Higher Secondary School on Thursday.
On the occasion, the Sub-Divisional Teachers’ Award 2019 was conferred to Twinsnolian Lawriniang, Pungsaniang Govt LP School and Bandalinsha Marbaniang, Bynther LP School in the Lower Primary Category. In the Upper Primary category, Bahun Ryntathiang, Mairang Presbyterian HS School and Bhalen Lyngdoh, Langtor Upper Primary School were given the awards.
Fabianrichfield Syiem, Mairang Presbyterian HS School was the awardee in the Secondary Category besides awardee Evangeline Ruth Lyngdoh, Langtor Higher Secondary School in Higher Secondary Category.
Others who were present included A Nongbri, SDO Mairang Civil Sub-Division, RR Lamare, I/C Sub-Divisional School Education Officer, Mairang and the principals and teachers of different schools within Mairang Civil Sub-Division.
Jowai
Students from various schools and colleges of Ri Bhoi celebrated the 58th Teachers’ Day at District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai.
The programme was organised by the office of the District School Education Officer, West Jaintia Hills.
Minster of Commerce & Industries, Sniawbhalang Dhar was the chief guest besides guest of honour Wailadmiki Shylla, Local MLA and the Chairman of Meghalaya Commission on Resource Mobilisation.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner R.S Manners, D. Khongiong, Joint Director, Director of Education & Literacy, West Jaintia Hills District, among others.
District awards were conferred to Bliss Lyngdoh, Vice Principal, Jowai Public School in the Secondary Level.
Upper Primary Level award was given to S. Charity Dkhar, Headmaster, Khliehtyrshi UP School, Lower Primary Level award to Priskila Paswet, assistant teacher, Panaliar Government L.P School, Jowai.
Special awards for teachers teaching in Inclusive Schools were awarded to Angela C. Dingengi, School of Mother Elizabeth for Visually Impaired Children and Jalatein Mulang Nongbah, West Jaintia Hills District.
The best Scout Master was awarded to Thijlang Suchiang, Mookaiaw, Government UP School and Best Guides Captain was awarded to Ioowanka Suchiang, Modern Secondary School, Ialong.
