SHILLONG: A group of casual employees from the State Sports Council have expressed shock at the statement of Sports Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh who denied that all the 93 casual employees took part in the indefinite strike.
The Minister informed the Assembly on Thursday that as per records available in the State Sports Council, 44 of the 93 casual employees have gone on strike without informing the competent authority. The rest are attending their duties as usual.
One of the casual employees, M. Marwein, said it is hard to believe that there could be 93 casual employees at the State Sports Council since as per information available with them, there are 61, out of whom 50 have demanded enhancement of salaries.
She informed that the employees started the strike from August 27 demanding raise in salary as per the minimum wages of the state government.
“The state government pays Rs 5000 per month. We decided to agitate demanding enhancement of the wages,” he said.
Criticising the minister, Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) youth wing president, Thomas Passah said, “Even if only two employees agitate, the minister should listen.”
