SHILLONG: As many as 9 athletes of the Meghalaya Athletic Association, who were selected for a coaching camp in Ranchi, have been unable to accompany the team for the camp due to rejection in entry for not having proper residential proof, Finely Pariat, secretary of the association informed in a statement.
It may be mentioned that athletes and officials of the Meghalaya Athletic Association, who left the city on Wednesday, have reached Ranchi on Friday.
Pairat said that entry for the camp via online registration has been done for the first time and since some athletes did not even have Adhaar, their entry was not accepted adding that even the birth certificates of the athletes did not properly cite their proof of address.
“This is a big loss for the state as most of the left-out athletes have the potential to bag medals being winners in the previous year. I hope the athletes will be ready with their Aadhar next year,” he said.
