SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed that an inquiry into the alleged one-man show in Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) was conducted by the Managing Director, MTDC Ltd and the report has been submitted to the government.
During the question hour in the Assembly on Friday, the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MLA Adelbert Nongrum questioned as to how the inquiry was conducted without removing the alleged person from his chair and said, “How can it be a fair enquiry?”
To this, the Chief Minister said it is an independent enquiry done by the Managing Director of MTDC.
He reiterated that though allegations were made, as per the report submitted, nothing concrete was found in the particular allegation.
It was an independent enquiry and there is no reason for the individual to be removed, he said.
To a question, the chief minister said it is Superintendent Engineer, M.U. Ahmed
As for the one man- show allegation, a letter was sent by Nongrum on January 31, 2019 to the chief minister where he had alleged about the one-man show and utter mismanagement in the affairs of MTDC.
Replying to a supplementary query by Congress MLA PT Sawkmie, Sangma said the initial inquiry was done by the MD regarding the functioning of MTDC with regard to the individual on different works and cases.
There are no substantial evidences to take action against the individual and the murder case is probed by the police.
Nongrum reiterated the need to remove the official from the post to which Sangma said the board of MTDC took the decision and government cannot direct the board. The KHNAM MLA said, “This is not a fair enquiry”, to which the CM said that the inquiry was made by the MD and the inquiry report is available with the government.
As for the death of Iohbianghun Sahkhar (an assistant manager at Orchid, Polo), Sangma said police is still investigating the death of Sahkhar.
Further replying to Nongrum’s query, Sangma said, “Nobody can influence an inquiry being done by the police.”
He said a board meeting was held to condole the death of Sahkhar.
Sahkhar was found dead in Umbir in June.
