SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front has asked all the leaders and the public to not paint the Instrument of Accession (IOA) and Annexed Agreement (AA) in any political colour and rhetoric but to deliberate and discuss the matter holistically.
HNYF secretary Sadon Kupar Blah said that a senior leader of the UDP has stated that the IOA is an archaic and historical document and reminded that nothing in the Indian Constitution can become archaic because of Article 368, which provides for amendment indicating that the Constitution is an evolving one.“Secondly, though the Standstill Agreement was violated by the annexation of the Khasi Hima by the Indian Union, it does not mean that as the Hynniewtrep people we should write off the contents of the IOA and Annexed Agreement by ourselves.
“On the contrary, the Indian government and we the people of Hynniewtrep must come clear on our national integration with the Indian Union… neither the Union government nor the Khasi states have abrogated or written off the Instrument of Accession and the Annexed Agreement,” he said.
