Home minister checks status of projects in SWGH

AMPATI: Home Minister James Sangma reviewed the status of implementation of various schemes and projects by different line departments at a systematic review meeting held at the DRDA conference hall, Ampati on Tuesday.
The day-long review meeting was also attended by local MLA Miani D Shira, Chief Executive Member of GHADC, Dipul R Marak, MDC Betasing, Nripen Koch and Vice Chairman, Public Grievances, Subhir Marak besides district heads of line departments led by South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ramkumar S.
The objective of the review meeting was to effectively implement schemes and also acts as ways and means to coordinate with government departments.
Ampati being the third district to be reviewed by the home minister, he expressed his delight over the performance of South West Garo Hills for pushing the boundaries with innovations. He said that that the best practices and model set by Ampati will be replicated in rest of the districts.
James congratulated the entire administrative team of SWGH under the leadership of the DC for effectively handling the flood situation that occurred in July and also lauded the officers for candidly expressing all problems and also suggesting solutions during the meeting.
A number of departments have expressed problems faced due to lack of manpower, updated infrastructure, shortage of funds and issues related to contractors.
Among other issues discussed in the meeting were land acquisition under IBBF, completion of new DC’s Office building, non-utilisation of Farmers’ Market at Ampati and Betasing, Solid & Liquid Waste Management project and inter-departmental issues.
The DC informed the home minister about a number of small initiatives that were being taken up to take the district forward and the review meetings at the district and block levels that were being held regularly.
Later, the home minister inspected the new DC’s office building under construction upon the DC’s request for government intervention to expedite the process of construction.
