Group warns coal-laden trucks

Nongpoh: Following allegations from several quarters regarding illegal transportation of coal in Ri Bhoi, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front, Northern Region has confirmed that coal-laden trucks are moving freely not only along the highway but also on the interior roads of the district.
Speaking to the media here, president of HNYF, Northern Region Marcus Marten said that the federation has received specific inputs regarding the free movement of these illegal coal-laden trucks in the district and termed it as “blatant violation of law”.
He also informed that the trucks whether with challans or without, move only during the night using the Mairang-Patharkhmah, Umling-Narang, Umsning-Mawhati and Nongpoh-Umden roads to evade the weighbride at Narang.
“It is a matter of great concern and quite surprising that authorities are not taking any action against these trucks,” Marten said. He added that the overloaded trucks also damage the roads, which affects the public at large.
The federation warned the trucks not to misuse the routes for their illegal business. It also urged the police department and the district administration to keep a strict vigil on the movement of these trucks.
“If the authorities do not act in this regard, the federation will take its own course of action,” Marten stated.
