Youth rescues deer calf

MAWKYRWAT: Bhakupar Iawphniaw (19), a youth from Nonglang village, on Wednesday, rescued a young deer (calf) that fell into the stream in the village after he was chased away by a big male deer.
The deer was handed over to the wild life officials on Thursday.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Iawphniaw informed that the incident took place on Wednesday at around 2:30 pm while he was going to the paddy field on the outskirts of Nonglang village. A big male deer chased away the young deer which fell into the deep water of Phot Blem Syiar stream at Nonglang.
“After seeing me, the big male deer turned away and went back to the forest while the calf fell into the water. Apparently, the big deer wanted to kill the calf. I took the young deer and brought it to my home and kept him in a cage. I also fed him grass and milk three times till today,” he said.
Moreover, the youth said that on Thursday morning, he informed the government officials and the wild life officials arrived and took the young deer to Shillong.
