Meanwhile, the NCC Shillong College as part of the Swacchta Pakhwada Observation organised an Inter- College Debate Competition on the theme “Swacch Bharat – the need of the hour for a cleanShillong” in the college premises.
Speaking at the function as a guest, the Principal of the College stated that the civic sense of cleanliness prevalent amongst Shillongites should extend beyond the homes and immediate environment.
While lauding the initiatives started by the Chief Minister and introduced by KHADC, he urged the cadets to chip in and support the cause for a better tomorrow.
During the debate, some of the cadets opined that Swacch Bharat cannot be successful without cooperation from all stakeholders concerned, a few however expressed that it was a strategy of promoting public image while others stated that it worked like a mass awareness movement.
However, at the end of the debate when the motion was put to a vote the house unanimously agreed that the Swacch Bharat Campaign and other local programmes like “Shillong my Passion” is a need of the hour for a clean Shillong.
