TURA: A local development forum from Tura has proposed a slew of measures to the government for improving various services as well as the living conditions of the people and to bring development to Tura and its surrounding areas.
In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma recently, the New Tura development Forum (NTDF) proposed that public awareness programmes should be organised by various departments namely the PHE, MeECL and PWD to ensure that schemes and projects are utilised by the people.
The forum also suggested that roads in New Tura including roads constructed prior to the ABDK Soba in February should be transformed into all weather roads along with the creation of locality or community markets for indigenous traders.
Other suggestions included the setting up of general stores and canteens at different offices, installation of street lights at crucial junctions and locations in New Tura, ensuring the proper functioning of the ISBT at Chasingre, early completion of Ganol Small Hydro Project, circular ring system for regulation of traffic in front of the PA Sangma stadium, issuance of circulars for proper waste disposal, upgradation of Health Sub Centre at Dakopgre to PHC, to look into the matter of issuing TNT by the GHADC, to remedy the non-functional MTC building in Dakopgre, to look into random parking of TPTS buses and to ensure regular checking of food items bearing ISI trademarks by the concerned department.
The forum also sought the setting up of a police station behind the CRPF canteen in Dakopgre along with the setting up of a Fire Department in the area, to make improvements to the post office, to resume construction of the District Museum, the construction of multilevel parking lots and to resume construction of the shopping complex in Najing Bazar.
Meanwhile, in a separate complaint, the forum urged the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills to look into the problems of the people applying for necessary documents such as birth certificate, caste certificate and permanent residential certificates.
