SHILLONG: The UDP leader Bindo Lanong has advised spokesperson of traditional institutions, John Kharshiing to accept gracefully the settled issue of Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement (IOA and AA) unjustifiably voiced by him or state what are the pending issues of the IOA and AA yet to be fulfilled.
In a statement issued on Friday, Lanong said Kharshiing, the chairman of the Federation of Khasi States (FKS) is avoiding to address the contentious issue of why is he still demanding fulfillment of his prolonged-manifold demands on the Annexed Agreement of the Instrument of Accession even after the former claimed that the issues stipulated in the AA have been fairly met and are being also fairly exercised now by the traditional institutions within their respective bounds and capacity.
“Kharshiing has drifted now to a new issue of codification of the traditional institutions, which has been taken up long ago by the KHADC, many have been completed, cases of others are on the way of codification, but complexities of the subject do take a long time to finalise. It is advisable for John to accept gracefully the settled issue unjustifiably voiced by him, or state what are the pending issues of the IOA and AA, yet to be fulfilled”, Lanong said.
Regarding the news report that the UDP has rejected Lanong’s views on IOA and AA, the UDP leader said the heading is misleading since the UDP has not met to take up the issue, although many in the party support his views on the subject.
Paul Lyngdoh’s version was not wrong either, when he stated that the views of Lanong are personal not of the party, the UDP leader added.
