U-Bank & U-Product launched in Ri Bhoi

SHILLONG: The office of the Block Development Officer C&RD Block along with students and teachers of Evershine Secondary School, Umsning took part in the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign on Wednesday.
Local MLA Jason Mawlong also inaugurated the U-Bank concept and U-Product in an effort to avoid the use of plastic during official functions and meetings.
The U-Bank concept was launched by the C&RD Block Umsning, Ri Bhoi in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS). The bank will provide utensils and other items made of steel and non-plastic material for free.
As a substitute to plastic bags, the U-Product was launched which is an environment friendly carry bag produced by the trainees of the USHA-cum-production centre in Umsning under the MSRLS project.
Under this project, a total of 50 trainees were trained to design bags made of cotton which can be produced affordably.
In his address to the gathering, Raja Brahma, BDO, Umsning requested all government offices, SHGs and other stake holders to utilise the U-Bank as an initiative to avoid using plastics products and to keep the environment free from pollution.
