State launches online RTI portal

SHILLONG: Chief Secretary P S Thangkhiew launched the online RTI portal.
The portal will facilitate applicants seeking information under the Right to Information Act. The portal can be accessed by the people on the homepage  http://megrti.gov.in by clicking in “Online RTI”.
In the first phase, the portal will be enabled for filing of RTI applications to all the public information officers (PIOs) in the deputy commissioners’ offices and subsequently for all POIs in the state. There is an online payment gateway for making payment of requisite fees under the RTI Act. The portal facilitates online reply to applications and also for making first appeal and reply thereto.
Applicants seeking information under the RTI Act can use the online portal. The details of RTI applicants received through post could be entered into the system. The citizens can also check the real time status of their RTI applications/ first appeals filed online.  
The chief secretary urged the Deputy Commissioner’s to make use of the facility in order to serve the people of the state better and to improve the delivery mechanism so that there will be transparency and accountability in providing services to the citizens of the state.
Additional Chief Secretary R V Suchiang, Commissioner and Secretary R. Lyngdoh, Commissioner and Secretary DDG and SIO NIC, T Dkhar and other officers were also present during the launch.
The Deputy Commissioners attended the function through video conferencing along with the public information officers and nodal officers.
