State observes World Mental Health Day

NONGPOH/TURA: The District Medical and Health Programme (DMHP), Ri Bhoi observed the World Mental Health Day under the theme ‘Mental Health Promotion & Suicidal Prevention’ at the Conference hall of Civil Hospital, Nongpoh on Thursday.
The programme was attended by M. Mawrie, DM&HO, GB Mihsil, Medical Superintendent, M. Dkhar Nodal officer DMHP, A Mawiong, Psychiatrist, M Syiemlieh, Additional DM&HO and others.
A colourful and vibrant march from NSCA Mini Stadium Pahamsyiem to Civil Hospital, Nongpoh was conducted in which students from various schools, ASHAs among others participated.
A short film about a drug addicted person was presented besides the distribution of certificate to the winners of slogan writing competition by the Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital was also held.
Meanwhile, the Bethany Society, Shillong, in collaboration with the Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), organised a similar programme at Umsning Auditorium Hall, to celebrate World Mental Health Day with special focus on prevention of suicide especially among the age group of 15 to 29 years.
Meanwhile, the District Mental Health Programme, South West Garo Hills, in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) observed the World Mental Health Day at MFC, Ampati on Thursday.
The programme was thematised on ‘Mental Health Promotion & Suicide Prevention’. An awareness rally was also conducted by students on mental health.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ampati, SK Marak was the chief guest along with other guests including Legal Aid Counsel, DLSA, Ampati, Sameer Chakraborty, DMHO, Ampati, KA Sangma, District Programme Manager, Shirley Sangma, among others.
