Nongstoin observes World Mental Health Day

NONGSTOIN: Along with the rest of the world, Nongstoin on Friday observed World Mental Health Day.
In a bid to promote mental health and generate awareness on mental health issues affecting today’s younger generation, the observation was organised by the office of the District medical & Health Officer, West Khasi Hills in collaboration with District Legal Service Authority, Nongstoin on the theme ‘Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention’.
The programme was marked by an awareness rally on mental health by students along with mental health workers, role-play on causes and prevention of suicide by students from different schools in Nongstoin and others.
Awareness talks by various speakers also marked the programme.
Dr. M Bareh, District Medical & Health Officer, West Khasi Hills, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, in her address said that the programme aimed to highlight mental health issues and make mental health care a reality worldwide.
She also appealed to the gathering to come forward to help people, who are suffering from mental problems, to avail facilities and benefits from the government.
