Youths cut trees to raise fund for playground

NONGPOH: In a bid to collect funds for development, the youths of Nongmawlong village under Umsning Constituency in Ri Bhoi were compelled to fell trees to sell them and raise funds for buying land in the village for building a playground.
The village youths, while taking to The Shillong Times, informed that till date, the kids and the youths have not had a proper playground in the village for playing, which is very unfortunate.
Due to no financial support from the government, the youths were forced to fell trees but it hurts them to destroy what their forefathers preserved and conserved.
The Nongmawlong youths lamented that many candidates come before elections to the village with false promises to provide proper playground and other facilities and ask for votes, but unfortunately, nothing had been done for them so far.
They further expressed concern over the irresponsibility of elected representatives regarding the development of the remote villages like Nongmawlong and added that so far the village was lacking in almost every aspect of development.
On the other hand, the youths thanked the village Dorbar for giving them the permission to cut trees from the village forest land for developing a playground.
