TURA: Poor road connectivity, absence of medical staff in health centres and large scale smuggling of timber have compelled the Garo Student’s Union of North Garo Hills district to move the government to take remedial steps within a week or face protests.
The student body on Thursday submitted a memo to the government through the Deputy Commissioner at Resubelpara demanding that a probe be instituted against the departments of health and forests and kick-start work on the crucial road connecting Damra in Assam with Bajengdoba through Resubelpara.
“This road from Damra to Bajengdoba via Resubelpara is the lifeline of the people of our district but no work has taken place to repair it for a long time casuing difficulties for the poeple particularly school and college students,” informed the student union.
The delegation also brought to the notice of the DC that inspection of several hospitals, including Primary and Community Health Centres), has revealed that there was a high rate of absenteeism by doctors and other medical staff besides insufficient supply of medicines.
