Condolences continue to pour in for Archbishop Jala

SHILLONG: The Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya comprising the Federation of Khasi States, Ki Sirdarship, Ka Dorbar Ki Dolloi and Council Nokmas have conveyed their condolences on the untimely demise of Archbishop Dominic Jala.
“We remember late Archbishop Dominic Jala as being a soft-spoken, kind person and a church leader who led a simple life. He was committed to the poor and marginalized of his diocese especially in rural areas,” said the chairman of the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, John F Kharshiing.
“His dedication, service and contribution to the community will always be remembered. During this moment of grief, on behalf of the Grand Council of chiefs of Meghalaya and the Federation of Khasi States we wish to convey our condolences to the family members and the community of the Archdiocese of Shillong,” Kharshiing said.
“We pray that the Almighty grant the family and the community of the Archdiocese of Shillong strength and solace during this moment of great loss. We wish the departed soul eternal peace,” he added.
Principals’ Council recalls Jala’s contribution
The Meghalaya College Principals’ Council in its condolence meeting held at St. Edmund’s College on Thursday deeply mourned the death of Jala.
The members of the council recalled the contribution of the late Archbishop towards higher education and also his contribution towards the youth of the state particularly those coming from the rural areas.
“He will be remembered as a person who achieved excellence in education, being a person of piety and humility. His efforts in bringing higher education especially to the rural areas will continue to be highly appreciated,” the council said in a statement. “With his passing away, he left a vacuum which cannot be easily filled,” the statement added.

Unitarian Union reaches out to bereaved family
The Unitarian Union (North East India) stated that it is deeply grieved by the demise of Jala.
“He was a well-known and highly respected leader of the Catholic Church. The union sends its heartfelt condolences to his relatives and followers,” said a statement released here on Friday.
Seng Samla postpones Golden Jubilee
The Seng Samla Catholic of Mawlai Parish has decided to postpone its golden jubilee celebration as a mark of respect to Jala who passed away on October 10.
The organisation also expressed its shock at the sudden demise.
One minute silence observed
The Shillong City Mahila Congress Committee conveyed its condolences over the demise of Jala.
As a mark of respect, one minute silence was observed.
“We express our heartfelt condolences to the Archdiocese and the bereaved family members. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the committee said.
