SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday and discussed several issues pertaining to the development of the state, particularly the ongoing work for hosting the upcoming National Games in the state.
Development of the infrastructure for the upcoming National Games to be hosted by the state as well as a major project under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment that is pending with the Cabinet were raised during the meeting.
The chief minister also gave a proposal for other important infrastructure projects for the National Games, said an official statement from his office.
According to the statement, the prime minister is said to have assured the chief minister of all possible help to ensure that the projects are completed in time for the National Games.
Sangma sought a financial assistance of Rs 1,000 crore from the Centre for various developmental projects to be taken up across the state, it was informed.
Assembly project
A financial package for completing major infrastructural projects including the construction of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly was also sought from the Centre during the meeting. This is from a special corpus for the states from the Prime Minister’s Office, said the statement.
Sangma invited Modi to the state for the upcoming Water Conference, launch of the Piggery Mission and the inauguration of the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Shillong.
Bangladesh visit
Sangma also briefed Modi about an upcoming visit to Bangladesh in which the former will lead a delegation in November with a view to establish better economic ties with the neighbouring country and work on a plan to increase export of goods from Meghalaya with an aim to boost the state’s economy.
