SHILLONG: Former Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism KJ Alphons and state BJP Minister AL Hek on Thursday laid the wreath on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the funeral of Archbishop Most Rev Dominic Jala.
Apart from the two, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Opposition leader Muklul Sangma and other cabinet ministers, MLAs and many officers of the state government including police attended the funeral.
Meanwhile, Shillong Traffic Police (STP) was also very happy with the fact that there were very less vehicles on the road on Thursday.
Earlier, the STP had requested people to walk to the funeral instead of taking out their vehicles.
A traffic cop acknowledged that the Shillongites have responded positively to the request and there was little or no traffic congestion in the city on Thursday.
