Directive issued on fire crackers use in WGH

TURA: Based on the Supreme Court directive, the West Garo Hills (WGH) district administration has issued a public notice on the use of fire crackers during the Diwali celebrations.

The notice prohibits the manufacture sale or use of fire crackers generating noise level exceeding 125 d B(AI) or 145 d B PK 4 meter distance from the point of bursting. For individual firecracker consisting the series (joined fire crackers) the above mentioned limit is to be reduced by 5 log 10(N) dB.

Fire crackers will not be allowed to be used at any time in the silent zones issued by the Ministry of Environmnent and forests, as well as in areas  comprising not less than 100 meters around hospitals, education institutions, courts, religious places and other areas declared as such by the competent authority.

The order by the district magistrate has directed all members of the public to strictly adhere to the directives issued.
